What Results Can I Expect?

Open before and after gallery

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Teosyal, Stylage and Belotero can be dissolved using an enzyme called Hyaluronidase. This enzyme naturally occurs in our skin but can be injected at higher concentrations to rapidly remove unwanted filler. The enzyme is a powder that is mixed with saline and then this solution is injected into the area where the filler has been placed. When undertaking Dermal Filler Dissolving treatment, the filler will be broken down and will disappear in a matter of minutes. However, the results of the treatment are usually only apparent after 24 hours (once any swelling has gone down).

How to prepare?

At Drs Tatiana + Rishi Advanced Aesthetics, we ensure that only highly trained doctors or surgeons carry out filler dissolve treatments, so you can be sure that you are getting the highest possible standard of care. When considering an injectable treatment, we recommend that you start by booking in a consultation with the doctor. During the consultation we will assess the area of concern, answer any of your questions, show you examples of our work and develop an effective treatment plan for you.

On the day of treatment your doctor will confirm the treatment plan, take you through the consent process and take some pre-treatment photographs. We will carry out an allergy patch-test on your arm to check that you are not allergic to the enzyme. The area of treatment will be cleaned and numbing cream will be applied. Once the area is numb, and provided there was no sign of allergy, the doctor will start the treatment. The process of injection is normally no longer than 5 minutes. After treatment, the doctor will apply aftercare cream and discuss how best to look after the area that has been treated. The receptionist will then offer you a review appointment and send you an email confirming the aftercare instructions.

Hyaluronidase enzyme is used to dissolve any hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Teoxane and Belotero. If your filler is non-hyaluronic acid e.g. Radiesse, Sculptra or Ellanse, then this treatment will not work. Non-hyaluronic acid fillers cannot be dissolved and can only be surgically removed.

Yes, a patch-test is done at least 20 minutes prior to injection of the hyaluronidase enzyme.  This is to check for any immediate allergic reactions that would mean it is not safe to inject the enzyme. If there are no signs of allergy (such as itching, redness or a wheal) after 20 minutes, then we can safely proceed with treatment.

Our aim is to inject the minimum necessary dose of enzyme to dissolve the unwanted filler, but not to dissolve natural hyaluronic acid in the skin. For this reason, we only inject small quantities of enzyme per treatment. This means that more than one treatment may be required in order to fully remove the unwanted filler.

Dissolving filler can cause discomfort; however we use numbing cream and numbing injections to help minimise this.

As with any injection, it is possible that you may experience some redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. These may take a 2-3 days to resolve and bruises sometimes longer. We advise that you don’t plan treatments around important commitments and allow at least 2 weeks between treatment and an important social or work event.

Our injectable treatments are performed by fully trained and experienced doctors and surgeons. You can rest assured that you are getting the highest standard of care by every member of our team.

We recommend that you avoid taking blood thinning tablets such as aspirin or ibuprofen (unless prescribed by your doctor) for 3 days prior to treatment. We also advise avoiding alcohol intake for 24 hours prior to treatment. It is also important that you are available for follow-up after treatment, so we recommend not to book injectable treatment if you are travelling in the next two weeks.
